FVWP Athlete Development and
Information BCSSA removes 'O Cat' swim designations for elite water polo athletes! At the 2011 Annual General Meeting, the BC Summer Swimming Association voted to remove the restrictions on water polo training in the off-season that had previously resulted in summer swimmers having to compete in the 'O Cat' division. Summer swimmers who have been designated as 'O Cat' swimmers because of their water polo (and synchronized swimming) training from October through May of each year will be able to swim and compete with their respective age divisions starting in the 2012 swim season. This means more time to play polo! RIVERSIDE,
Calif.--- The California Baptist men’s water polo team had an
unprecedented 32 wins in the pool this season and finished the year
ranked No. 17 in the nation. The team averaged a school record 13.89
goals per game while allowing an all-time low of just 6.63 per match.
The Lancers held their own against eventual NCAA Div. I champion USC in
a 7-11 loss and posted a win over a Princeton team that was in the 2009
final four. In the midst of all that they still made time for the
classroom, exemplifying the definition of student-athlete.
Aaron
Steiger fittingly led the way for the Lancers, earning Outstanding
honors (3.71-4.00 GPA) along with Chris Vanjoff.
Grade
12 Garibaldi student Victoria Smith has won a prestigious scholarship to
San Jose State University for playing water polo. Victoria Smith, FVWP

scholarship, thanks to her outstanding combination of both academic and
athletic prowess.
It has been confirmed that Justin Mitchell, will be the Head Coach of
this program with the Assistant coach TBC, of this program. The program

and ’95 age group, for athletes who have the talent and skills to
represent Canada on the Youth, Junior and FISU National Team programs.
For Jackson Schaefer, an upcoming trip to Serbia could be the first step
to achieving what his late father aspired to be - an Olympian. Jackson,
a 6-2 Grade 10 student at New Westminster Secondary School, was recently
selected to Canada's first-ever 16-and-under boys' national water polo
team. The Canadian boys travelled to the Balkan country in the first
week of August to train with the Serbian national youth team before
taking part in a 10-team international tournament in the capital of
Belgrade. Jackson's father, Ron, represented Canada on the senior
national team in 1979, helping his country win its first-ever medal, a
bronze, at the Pan American Games. A year later, Ron was denied an
opportunity to take part at the Olympic Games when Western countries
boycotted the 1980 Games in Moscow. Ron passed away suddenly five years
ago from a heart attack. "(My father) never got to go the Olympics, and
I hope one day I can go to the Olympics. I just want to be one of the
best in the country," Jackson said, adding he wants to help Canada
continue to develop into a dominant player on the world stage as well.
"I think that is what this Team Canada is all about - to keep us moving
up the rankings in world water polo." Jackson, 14, has been steadily
moving up the water polo depth charts since he stopped swimming
competitively with the Hyack Swim Club at the age of nine in order to
take up the sport...
